Job Summary

Starting salary is commensurate with years of RN experience. The Clinical Nurse I is a professional care provider responsible for providing safe, effective individualized nursing care to pediatric patients and supportive care to significant others. Duties include assessing patients, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care according to established standards, applying scientific nursing principles, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and teaching.
Typical Duties

Identify, plan, and care for the total needs of patients, considering age‑specific needs.
Perform initial and ongoing assessment and data collection, considering biophysical, psycho‑social, environmental, self‑care, educational and discharge planning factors.
Formulate and update an individualized plan of care based on assessed needs, desired outcomes, and age‑related requirements.
Implement care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and safe manner based on established standards.
Evaluate effectiveness of care and revise interventions as appropriate.
Record assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes.
Develop, implement, and evaluate educational services and programs for patients.
Make appropriate and timely decisions in a crisis or emergency.
Perform and/or direct cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities.
Operate equipment necessary for patient care in the assigned clinical area.
Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and other individuals.
Supervise, provide general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care given by other nursing staff.
Apply knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures.
Apply principles of infection control and safety.
Demonstrate awareness of patient/family rights and ethical and legal issues.
Participate actively in staff orientation and development activities.
Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice, growth, and development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain license within two (2) weeks prior to starting employment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within two (2) weeks prior to starting.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or ability to obtain prior to conclusion of orientation.
Preferred Qualifications

One (1) to five (5) years of pediatric nursing experience.
CPN or other applicable specialty certification.

Working knowledge of current accreditation and regulatory agency requirements.

Capacity to push, pull, twist, turn, bend, kneel, stoop, lift and reach above shoulder and stand for prolonged periods.
Decision‑making in crisis or emergency scenarios.
Experience performing and/or directing cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities.
Physical and Environmental Demands

This position functions within a healthcare environment and requires adherence to all hospital and department‑specific safety requirements, including personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, and engineering and work‑practice controls as specified by hospital‑wide policy and departmental procedures.
Veteran Preference

Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served at least six months of continuous service in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans must meet the minimum qualifications, identify themselves as a Veteran on the application, and provide proof of status (DD‑214, DD‑215, or NGB 22) or a state/driver’s license indicating Veteran status at the time of application or interview.
