Position Summary
Under the supervision of a physician, the nurse provides nursing care requiring basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences. The role involves knowledge, skill and ability to care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
Conduct assessments of patients, and develop and evaluate care plans, considering emotional, social, and physical needs.
Provide direct skilled nursing care to patients.
Administer medications ordered by a licensed provider, practicing the Five Rights of medication administration.
Respond to emergency situations promptly, precisely and professionally.
Maintain excellence in clinical competency and nursing skills through continuing education.
Inform physician or NP of patients' symptoms, reactions, progress and other care information, and document it in the medical record (paper and electronic) according to policies and procedures.
Maintain a clean, safe and orderly environment for patients, visitors and staff, practicing universal precautions.
Participate in ongoing quality improvement programs and respond to data collection results.
Present a positive professional appearance and attitude, demonstrating excellent guest relation skills, interpersonal skills and team values within the professional corporation, health system and community.
Recognize and respect patient rights.
Observe and maintain patient, staff and corporate confidentiality per policies and procedures.
Ensure personal performance reflects the mission, vision, standards of behavior and service goals.
Requirements
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program and maintain current licensure in the State of Ohio.
Function within the scope of practice of nursing for registered nurse as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Maintain BCLS certification.
Complete orientation to acquire familiarity with LMHS policies, nursing procedures and techniques within assigned patient care areas.
Efficiently participate in emergencies (code blue, fire, weather, disaster).
Demonstrate basic analytical ability to perform assigned tasks and gather and interpret data in non‑complex situations.
Provide care for young adult, adult and geriatric patients under supervision of a licensed physician, NP and/or RN.
Perform clinical skills including phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, medication administration via oral, nebulizer, IM, SQ, routes for adults, ear lavage, monofilament, glucometer, occult blood, visual and auditory acuity, strep screen, urinalysis, urine pregnancy, specimen collection and preparation as applicable.
Operate various office machines proficiently, including personal computer, office computer systems (IDX, EMR, Meditech), fax, telephone and photocopier.
Type proficiently.
LMHS is accredited by DNV and TJC and may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
