
Registered Nurse - Interventional Cardiology

Job Description
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
Responsibilities
80% – Patient care
Clinical knowledge/skills management, nursing process/documentation; assessment, implementation, evaluation coordination, patient education in interventional cardiac catheterization labs, cardiac electrophysiology labs, holding room, and procedure room.
10% – Coordination/Continuity/Communication
Maintains open communication and facilitates continuity of care for patients and/or family with members of the health care team through phone contact, verbal interaction, and/or written reports.
Maintains accurate, current, properly signed records and documentation which include nursing observations, interventions and care plan, nursing actions/teaching performed, and patient/family response to the action.
Obtains, records, and conveys information clearly and concisely.
Documents all communication with health care team, patient, and family in the patient’s medical record to facilitate seamless implementation of plan of care.
Demonstrates courtesy, common sense, and follow-through in all telephone communications, maintaining the Telephone Standards as established by UCSF Medical Center.
Fosters/maintains positive public relations (patients, family, visitors, and staff).
Uses effective communication skills with patients and staff.
Shows sensitivity to a variety of cultural needs.
Ensures all equipment are in good working condition and maintains adequate inventory of supplies.
5% – Performance Improvement
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Makes recommendations regarding PI topics or problems; assists in data collection.Reports and follows up on issues that affect environment and safety.
Maximizes resources by seeking assistance from appropriate staff, effectively using supplies, and making suggestions for improvements.
Assists with regulatory/compliance audits.
5% – Self‑Development/Professionalism
Attends classes, conferences, and workshops as applicable.
Attends and participates in staff meetings.
Complies with work‑related policies, including license renewal, annual PPD, CPR certification, use of benefit time, and dress code including identification policy.
Contributes to the orientation and learning experiences of other members of the health care team.
Complies with departmental scheduling guidelines; i.e., starts work at scheduled times, completes work in a timely manner.
Completes annual review and trainings in a timely manner.
This position will be required to orient, train, and flex for organizational need to cover both the Interventional Cardiac Cath and EP labs, the Holding Room, and the Procedure Room.
The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Performs any other duties related to patient care activities as required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Three years directly relatable experience in Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
Two years nursing experience in a Cardiovascular ICU, or Critical Care ICU.
One year directly relatable experience in pre-post recovery of surgical/procedural patients or post‑anesthesia recovery.
Previous moderate sedation experience.
Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Active healthcare provider CPR certification.
Active ACLS certification.
Excellent verbal and written skills; must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi‑task and work independently and under pressure.
Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.
This position requires flexibility to orient and help out in all areas of the Cath/EP/Holding areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent Cardiac Cath/EP/Holding Room experience.
Prior experience recovering post‑procedure adult interventional cardiology patients.
RCIS certification.
Prior experience with Epic EMR and GE MacLab/ComboLab.
License/Certifications:
Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
