Position Overview
Tilcon Connecticut is seeking an experienced Quality Control Technician for our Ready Mix Division. This position supports ready-mixed concrete production and delivery operations and requires flexibility in hours and location, with night and weekend work required as needed. The Quality Control Technician will work closely with Ready Mix plant personnel, drivers, and management to ensure consistent quality, compliance with specifications, and safe production practices. The position reports directly to the Quality Control Manager and must comply with all mandatory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Perform quality control duties specifically supporting Ready Mix concrete operations in a safe and efficient manner; promptly report issues to management.

Conduct field and laboratory testing of ready-mixed concrete and aggregates, including:

Concrete sampling and testing

Aggregate sampling and testing

Fresh concrete testing in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards

Monitor and document Ready Mix production quality to ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable specifications.

Follow all company policies and all applicable OSHA and MSHA regulations.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in Ready Mix plants, job sites, laboratories, and production areas.

Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with Ready Mix plant personnel, drivers, customers, inspectors, supervisors, and the general public.

Report to work at designated start times and remain through the end of scheduled shifts.

Work overtime, nights, and weekends as required to support Ready Mix production and jobsite demands.

Perform work outdoors in extreme temperatures and occasionally at heights related to Ready Mix plant and jobsite environments.

Strictly adhere to all safety requirements and procedures.

Assist Ready Mix team members and Quality Control staff with additional duties as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred: ACI Field Technician Grade 1 (Concrete).

Preferred: One (1) year of experience in Ready Mix concrete quality control testing.

Work Requirements

Clean DMV/driving record.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong attention to detail.

Basic math skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to pass:

Pre-employment drug screening

Criminal background check

Fit for Work physical examination

All necessary equipment and a company vehicle will be provided for use during business hours.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to talk and hear.

Required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including Ready Mix plants and construction job sites.

Required to use a computer for extended periods of time.

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Regular physical activities include:

Bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing

Standing, walking, sitting

Reaching, driving

Fine motor skills and repetitive motion

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment

Frequent outdoor work with exposure to:

Hot, cold, and wet weather

Noise and vibration from Ready Mix plants and equipment

Occasional exposure to:

Moving mechanical equipment

High heat conditions

Work is typically performed around operating Ready Mix plants, delivery vehicles, and active construction sites.

Regular interaction with Ready Mix operations personnel, drivers, and quality teams.
