Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer (AT) is responsible for delivering health care services as part of a multidisciplinary team in a secondary school setting. The AT works in collaboration with the Outreach Manager and provides athletic training services in accordance with Georgia and/or South Carolina state practice acts.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion.
Examination, assessment, and diagnosis of athletic and non‑athletic conditions in high school‑aged patients.
Immediate and emergency care.
Therapeutic intervention and education of sports medicine stakeholders on prevention and treatment of injuries.
Coordination of scheduling for Wellstar associated clinic appointments and follow‑ups.
Documentation of all evaluations and follow‑up interactions in the electronic medical recording system.
Adherence to local, state, and national regulations, guidelines, recommendations, and professional standards.
Maintenance of required documentation to practice as an athletic trainer in the state of GA.
Ensures compliance with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
Bachelor’s in Exercise Science or Athletic Training;
or Master’s in Athletic Training.
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor, or BLS – Basic Life Support, or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support.
CAT – Certified Athletic Trainer.
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)
State credential as an athletic trainer is required upon hire.
Required Minimum Experience
Less than 1 year of experience with an approved degree from a CAATE accredited bachelor’s or master’s program; or
15 or more years with a bachelor’s in a related field of study (kinesiology or exercise science) and successful certification prior to the 2004 change of BOC eligibility.
