Schedule
Variable; 40 Hours/Week and on-call hours, some evenings and weekends required

General Statement of Duties
This position provides crisis intervention, goal setting, empowerment and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in the shelter and on the crisis line. This position may also provide shelter coverage and specific administrative duties.

Essential Responsibilities

Meet individually with shelter clients to discuss, develop and implement a case plan specific to each individual shelter client.

Coordinate the case plan by providing advocacy and supportive services which may include transporting the client to an appointment or assisting them with completing an application for housing, employment or other needs.

Provide support, encouragement and positive feedback to clients to build self-esteem as they attempt to reach identified goals.

Assist the Assistant Director (AD) with daily administrative functions including but not limited to maintaining client files, scheduling training for clients, facilitating house meetings, and compiling monthly reports including JFS referrals and screenings.

Perform client advocate responsibilities as needed, including but not limited to answering crisis hotline and providing referrals and crisis intervention.

Keep AD apprised of all issues, concerns, and behaviors that affect the client’s case plan, as well as their safety and well-being.

Implement the rule of no physical discipline of children in shelter. This includes being supportive of mothers who are trying to learn non-physical discipline techniques.

Create and maintain an atmosphere of support and assistance for all residents and staff. Make daily contact with all residents to assure their needs are being met.

Assist residents with chores as needed to provide life skills training and mentoring.

Ensure shelter compliance with all required program procedures, such as bed bug protocol at staff exit and with clothing donations, fire and safety regulations, etc.

Attend staff meetings and participate in training as recommended by supervisor.

Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

Other duties may develop in the course of events. The Director/Shelter Manager has the authority to assign tasks not presently covered in this description.

Qualifications

Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds and positions.

Ability to work in a stressful/crisis-oriented environment.

Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence. Excellent communication and crisis intervention skills.

Ability to articulate the program philosophy of Someplace Safe.

Knowledge of the importance of empowerment and displaying caring, compassionate attitude.

Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.

Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).

Minimum Educational/License Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree/Associate Degree in social work, counseling or related field or related experience working with victims is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to climb stairs, bend, and stretch above shoulder level. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation
42,000-42,000 Yearly Salary
