Position Summary
Provides quality nursing care through the application of the nursing process using evidence based practice focusing on excellent outcomes and patient experience within the framework of Shared Governance.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Facilitate and Coordinate Total Care
Documentation of Care
Maintain Professional Development
Education of patient and family
Patient Advocate
Maintain Patient Safety
Specialty Nurse
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
All hires after July 2012 are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in nursing or, if holding an Associates Degree or Diploma, an RN must provide proof of enrollment in a BSN program prior to hire, be continuously enrolled and complete within 5 years of hire date or internal RN promotion date. An Associates Degree AND 2 years of experience in the specialty area will be accepted in lieu of a BSN. Preferred: none.
Experience
Required:
3 years Operating Room experience or has demonstrated progressive growth and commitment.
License, Registry or Certification
Required:
CNOR or will obtain within 18 months.
Preferred:
Certification in specialty.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
Must pass annual clinical competency based program and mandated in-service education. Unit specific skills may include but are not limited to scrubbing and circulating. Skills will be determined by a challenge exam and/or skill performance or by completion of a Staff Development course.
Preceptor – must have gone through preceptor course or will be going through the course within 6 months of acceptance to specialty nurse role.
Demonstrates excellent follow up and follow through ability.
Excellent communication skills.
Good computer skills.
Knowledgeable of AORN standards, Joint Commission and DOH regulations.
Knowledgeable of O.R. procedures and practice.
Preferred: 2 years scrubbing and circulating experience in various specialties including robotic surgery.
