Minimum Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED; basic healthcare training preferred.
Experience: Minimum 1 year in health care setting preferred.
Skills:
Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid; knowledge of universal precautions; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; basic computer skills; excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Basic data collection: vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations).
Respiratory safety: nebulizers and inhalers.
Wound care: cleaning and dressing of wounds.
Medication administration: oral, nasal, ophthalmic, otic, topical medications; gastrostomy tubes; emergency medications such as Epi‑pens, Diastat, etc.
Diabetes care per American Diabetes Association and Oklahoma State Department of Health guidelines and student physician orders.
Procedures potentially delegated: urinary catheterization, colostomy care, gastrostomy tube care and feedings, oral suctioning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Utilizes standards of care and first aid training in caring for students and staff.
Collecting data in compliance with health services standards and supervising nurse instructions.
Administering, documenting and inventorying medications in compliance with health services standards.
Communicating appropriately with supervising nurse.
Compiling data as directed.
Providing care within the scope of practice and limitations of the position.
Utilizing appropriate problem solving and accurately performing approved job skills.
Prioritizing and organizing completion of job responsibilities, including but not limited to responding in a timely manner to students, parents and staff, performing required duties promptly, maintaining accurate records.
Supporting health services goals through continuous quality improvement and educational activities: attending meetings, contributing ideas, participating in projects, complying with standards.
Participating in district safety activities: collecting, organizing and maintaining emergency information; staying knowledgeable of evacuation procedures; maintaining a safe work environment; consulting when needed; maintaining confidentiality.
Essential Behavior
Ability to use sound judgment in any situation, receive and appropriately respond to directions of a supervising nurse or administrator, adapt to changes promptly, build rapport and work cooperatively with district staff, students and the public, handle problematic situations by communicating to the appropriate person.
Attendance Statement
Able to achieve 95% attendance for assigned responsibilities.
Environmental Conditions
Primarily inside; routine exposure to body fluids and ill students; no extreme environmental conditions.
Physical Standards
Walking, sitting, standing, lifting/positioning students, using hands to lift up to 50 lbs in emergencies.
Bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, crawling as necessary.
Rapid reaction to secure student safety or assist in emergency medical situations.
Communication: talking, hearing, reading medication labels, recognizing faces at 20 feet, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, grasping ability, fine manipulation.
