Represents the face of our company to patients who come to Quest Diagnostics. The PSR III – Site Lead draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The PSR III – Site Lead has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner. The PSR III – Site Lead will direct daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) and leads more than one PSR on site. The PSR III – Site Lead can provide coverage at multiple locations for multiple roles. The PSR III – Site Lead must ensure that daily activities of the Patient Service Center/Mobile/Long Term Care/In-Office Phlebotomy are completed accurately and on time. The PSR III – Site Lead demonstrates Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants may be assigned to work and direct daily activity in a doctor's office, a patient service center, in a house call environment, long-term care or as business needs dictate. The role may involve stepping in for a PSR II and leading one or more PSRs on site. It may include coaching, mentoring, instruction, and onboarding for new employees, and acting as point of contact to staff on-site with regular input to the group lead or supervisor. The PSR III – Site Lead may focus on high-complexity or high-volume practices requiring advanced phlebotomy and customer-facing skills, including collaboration with Sales, Laboratory Testing Services, IT connectivity, Billing, and Logistics. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
Responsibilities
Collect specimens according to established procedures (including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams).
Administer oral solutions according to established training.
Research test/client information and verify all orders using lab systems.
Complete data entry for patient registration, test orders, and Standing Orders; manage billing information and collect payments when required; safeguard assets and credit card information.
Label, centrifuge, aliquot, and process specimens as required by test order.
Perform departmental clerical duties as needed (data entry, inventory, answering phones).
Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies and procedures; ensure staff follow instructions.
Verify patient demographic information and labeling accuracy post-venipuncture.
Assist with monthly statistics, data submission, and maintenance of phlebotomy logs (temperature and other logs).
Complete training courses and stay up-to-date with phlebotomy techniques.
Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off-site or outside normal shift.
Participate in special projects and teams; communicate technical information to the work group.
Perform Point of Care (POC) testing as needed and complete training/competency evaluations per SOP.
Mentor and onboard new employees; provide onboarding services to new clients.
Assist with schedules for the workgroup/PSCs and coordinate with supervisors.
Maintain professional communication with clients to resolve issues and document problems.
Ensure safety precautions are followed by staff (lab coat, gloves, face shield when required).
Assist with SOP implementation and distribute technical information per Quest Diagnostics guidelines.
Keep facilities neat, clean, and in good repair; report maintenance needs to Group Leader or Supervisor.
Act as coach, mentor, instructor, and resource advisor for new employees; be a point of contact on-site.
Provide onboarding services to new clients and assist with setting up offices for PSCs and IOPs.
Must be able to step in for a PSR II and lead one or more PSRs on site.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience
Five years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Keyboard/data entry experience.
Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Travel and flexible hours required to work multiple locations and cover PSCs/IOPs with minimal notice.
Preferred Work Experience
Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
Minimum 3 years in a PSC/IOP environment preferred.
Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
Physical And Mental Requirements
Lift 1 to 15 pounds frequently; up to 40 pounds occasionally; heavier lifting requires assistance.
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; long hours of eye and hand coordination.
Repetitive tasks with the dominant hand; travel required.
Extensive use of phone and PC; fine dexterity, speaking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting.
Knowledge
Commitment to Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including dress code and safety guidelines. Ability to communicate in English.
