
Assistant Acoustic Consultant
WSP in the U.S., Los Angeles, CA, United States
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Acoustic Consultant for our Arlington, VA office. The following locations will also be considered: New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA Arlington, VA. In this position, staff will be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities
Development of initial, project‑specific Acoustic design goals/concepts
Development of architectural, mechanical, and structural solutions to achieve project design goals
Calculations of HVAC system noise and Reverberation Time
Periodic review of project drawings & specifications throughout design for incorporation of acoustic design elements
Survey and evaluation of existing acoustic conditions
Three‑dimensional acoustic modeling
Construction Administration / Site Observations
Report preparation to communicate design & construction recommendations to clients and end users
Attend client meetings
Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Uphold workplace safety and have the ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Acoustics, Audio Technology, or similar degree with coursework in architectural acoustics.
1–3 years of professional acoustical analysis and design consulting experience.
Working knowledge of acoustic design metrics, and their application in architectural, communications systems, and mechanical systems design.
Previous experience in building design, including interior room acoustics, sound isolation, HVAC systems noise & vibration control, as well as field measurement experience.
Working knowledge of applicable ISO, ASTM, and ANSI standards related to acoustical measurement, analysis, and modeling, including international standards.
Working knowledge of HVAC noise and/or Sound Transmission modeling software such as V‑A Select, Potorff AIM, INSUL, and other proprietary modeling software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
Client focus, with a commitment to quality and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced (Masters or Doctorate) degree in Architectural Acoustics, Audio Technology, or similar degree.
Knowledge of 3D modeling software such as EASE, CATT‑Acoustic, Odeon, SoundPlan, CadnaA, etc.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Audiovisual system design experience.
Certification and/or membership in professional organizations.
Understanding of binaural/ambisonic recording and playback.
Understanding of acoustic simulation e.g. raytracing, convolutional reverberation, early reflections.
Understanding of audio engineering/mixing/mastering, video game audio design, and integrating audio plugins into VR scenes.

Compensation
Expected Salary (All Locations): $81,200 - $93,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
