
Yard Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:
Tahoma Global Logistics (TGL) is seeking qualified candidates for our Yard Lead position. The Yard Lead is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the heavy equipment yard by coordinating workflow, maintaining equipment readiness, and ensuring efficient yard organization. This role provides hands-on leadership by assisting with equipment handling, inspections, inventory control, and basic mechanical tasks while helping to guide yard personnel in daily activities. The Yard Lead ensures all equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, inspected, and ready for outbound shipping in accordance with company standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements. This position works closely with operations and maintenance teams to support timely and accurate equipment movement, uphold quality control standards, and maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Excellent attendance
Perform quality control checks on all value-added work including repairs and installations of attachments
Assist in setting up and dismantling equipment as needed
Support the yard manager in maintaining accurate records of equipment, parts, and supplies
Perform regular inventory checks and reconcile discrepancies
Assist in managing incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying quantities, and inspecting for damage
Enter and update inventory data in the inventory management system (IMS)
Assist in physical inventory counts and provide inventory reports to management
Maintain a clean and organized yard; ensure the yard is free of hazards and complies with safety standards
Perform quality control inspections to verify equipment condition, repair completion, and outbound readiness
Oversee inbound and outbound equipment processes to ensure accurate tracking, documentation, and asset control
Assist with equipment pick-up and drop-off, ensuring smooth transactions and customer satisfaction
Coordinate with operations and Yard Manager to ensure timely and efficient yard operations
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards
Operate equipment to test and ensure proper assembly
Read and interpret machine manuals and schematics for assembly and inspection purposes
Use a designated inspection app to document findings, defects, and concerns with photos and notes
Identify and escalate any issues or discrepancies found during assembly or inspection
Work closely with the maintenance team to address any mechanical issues and body repairs issues
Ensure maintenance and accountability for company-owned tools and equipment
Communicate inventory needs and issues with management and other relevant departments
Perform additional duties/projects as assigned
Contribute, when possible, for improvementsregarding safety, quality, delivery, and cost through continuous improvement methods identify potential areas of risk, and promptly share critical business information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TGL
Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
Strictly enforce workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses; consistently wear and utilize all required PPE
Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard TGL assets at all times
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum
Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license, good driving record, valid insurance and reliable transportation
2+ years of experience in logistics, operations, and/or yard management leadership
1+ year of previous experience operating heavy machinery (excavators, cranes, etc.)
Experience in inventory management, quality control, and customer compliance audits
Good written and verbal communication skills in English, with clarity and legibility in all written work
Positive, respectful and professional attitude with strong interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in assigned tasks
Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment
Ability to work independently and make real-time decisions to support operational goals
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team
Strong understanding of heavy equipment types, maintenance requirements, and logistics operations
Strong knowledge of safety regulations, federal OSHA standards, and best practices in yard management
PC and MS Office proficient; able to use mobile apps for data entry and inspection documentation
Culturally sensitive and works well with the full diversity of our company and community
Ability to work in an outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions
Ability to transport self over multi acre work site of varied terrain and climb in/out of equipment
Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to pass background check
Preferred
2+ years previous experience in a yard-related role
2+ years previous experience operating heavy machinery (excavators, cranes, etc.)
Certification in heavy equipment operation
Experience with inventory management systems

PTE formed Tahoma Global Logistics in December 2022 to leverage Tribal properties in the heart of the Port of Tacoma, WA for logistics operations. Located within the Heavy Cargo corridor of the Tacoma port, we are ready to support any and all of your outdoor storage requirements. We provide drayage services, regional trucking, and transloading of project cargoes from trailer to flat rack, including blocking, bracing, and export packing.
