Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Mainframe MQ Infrastructure Systems Programmer
to join our infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in
IBM MQ on z/OS , with a strong focus on
infrastructure engineering, system support, performance tuning, and MQ environment optimization
rather than application development. This role is critical for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of enterprise MQ messaging services.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, configure, and support
IBM MQ infrastructure
on mainframe (z/OS) environments.
Perform advanced
MQ performance tuning , capacity planning, and optimization.
Install, upgrade, patch, and maintain MQ components and related tools.
Troubleshoot complex MQ issues across distributed and mainframe environments.
Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of MQ systems.
Work closely with infrastructure, operations, and application teams to ensure seamless MQ integration.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices for MQ infrastructure.
Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution for MQ environments.
Monitor MQ queues, channels, logs, and system health metrics to proactively identify issues.
Provide advanced-level support during critical incidents and problem resolution.
Required Skills & Experience
12+ years
of experience as a
Mainframe Systems Programmer , with at least
7+ years focused on IBM MQ on z/OS .
Strong hands-on experience in
MQ infrastructure engineering -not MQ development.
Expertise in
MQ tuning, performance optimization, and troubleshooting .
Deep understanding of z/OS environments, JCL, SMP/E, RACF, and mainframe architecture.
Experience with MQ clustering, high availability configurations, and security controls.
Ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues across multiple platforms.
Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
Knowledge of related mainframe middleware (CICS, DB2, IMS) is a plus.
MQ migration and modernization experience.
Relevant IBM certifications are a plus.
