The Company is seeking a Senior Vice President, Law & General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the Board of Directors and the President & CEO, leading the Law Department, and overseeing all legal, legislative, and policy support. This role is pivotal in advocating industry positions on major governmental initiatives and representing the company in a wide range of legal matters, including economic regulation, safety and operations, environmental regulation, antitrust, and tax. The General Counsel will also be involved in strategic and policy-driven litigation, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and managing a team of legal professionals.
Candidates for this position should have a minimum of 15 years of legal experience, with a strong background in complex, highly regulated environments, and a proven track record of advising at the intersection of law, public policy, and industry dynamics. Experience in the transportation sector, particularly railroads, or other highly regulated industries is essential. The ideal candidate will have expertise in economic regulation, administrative law, and federal preemption, as well as a deep understanding of antitrust compliance frameworks. Executive presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage with C-suite executives and external stakeholders are also key qualifications. The role requires a strategic leader with the ability to anticipate emerging issues and contribute to forward-looking legal and policy approaches that support the company's mission and its members.
