This position is located in the Information Technology Bureau - Geospatial Unit that is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?
The GIS Intern will provide essential support for key tasks within the Conveyances (Acequias) project and the agency's ongoing imagery migration effort. By assisting with the updating, digitizing, and verification of conveyance data, as well as organizing and migrating imagery datasets, the intern will help enhance the accuracy, accessibility, and reliability of critical GIS resources.
How does it get done?
The intern will assist with updating, digitizing, and verifying GIS data for acequia conveyances, organizing and migrating imagery datasets into appropriate systems, and performing quality assurance checks to ensure data accuracy. Additional duties may include supporting map production, managing metadata, assisting staff with spatial analyses, and helping maintain organized
geospatial files and documentation.

Employees of the OSE/ISC.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidates should be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in geography, GIS, geospatial science, environmental science, natural resources, hydrology, geology, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant coursework may include GIS and spatial analysis, remote sensing, cartography, database management, geospatial data processing, field data
collection methods, imagery interpretation, environmental systems, and introductory modeling or analytical methods. These academic foundations will support the intern's ability to assist with conveyance (acequia) mapping, imagery migration, QA/QC processes, and general GIS support tasks.
Minimum Qualification
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
Employment Requirements
The intern will not drive a state vehicle.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Use of Xerox machine, scanners, printers and telephone.
