Role Overview The Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner provides frontline, immediate, nonemergent medical care to patients across the lifespan. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to work independently, and comfort in a fastpaced environment where rapid assessment and treatment are essential. Urgent care NPs routinely diagnose and treat acute illnesses, minor injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive physical exams and patient assessments for acute and episodic conditions. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests including Xrays, EKGs, and laboratory studies. Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic condition flareups. Perform urgent care procedures such as suturing, splinting, wound care, abscess drainage, and administering injections. Prescribe medications and develop evidencebased treatment plans. Provide patient education, discharge instructions, and followup recommendations. Collaborate with supervising physicians and refer to specialists or emergency departments when appropriate. Document all encounters in the EMR in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards. Maintain uptodate knowledge of urgent care best practices, clinical guidelines, and state/federal regulations. Qualifications Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license (required). Master’s degree in Nursing or related NP specialty. National certification as an NP (FNP, AGNP, or relevant specialty). ACLS and BLS certifications required; PALS preferred. Minimum 1–2 years of urgent care, emergency, or primary care experience preferred. Strong diagnostic, procedural, and clinical decisionmaking skills. Ability to work independently and manage a highvolume patient flow. Excellent communication and patientengagement skills.
