At LARC, our Awake Overnight Direct Support Professionals play a critical role in ensuring the safety, dignity, and comfort of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the night. This is meaningful, trusted work that truly matters.
This is an awake overnight position. You are expected to remain alert and attentive for the entire shift.
What You'll Do
Remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the entire overnight shift
Monitor individuals while they sleep to ensure health, safety, and comfort
Respond to nighttime needs such as toileting, repositioning, mobility support, or emotional reassurance
Complete required visual checks and documentation (T-Logs, GERs, safety notes)
Maintain a calm, clean, and safe household environment overnight
Morning Routine Support
Assist individuals with morning routines including hygiene, dressing, toileting, mobility, and breakfast preparation
Encourage independence while providing hands-on support as needed
Support smooth transitions into daytime schedules and programs
Health, Safety & Compliance
Administer medications as required (training provided)
Respond appropriately to medical or safety concerns and follow all emergency procedures
Uphold individual rights, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
Safely operate agency or personal vehicles as needed

Qualifications

The DSP shall have a minimum of a High School Diploma/GED.
Typically, 0-3 years on the job experience.
Valid CT Driver's license
Must maintain all LARC required and State mandated training certifications and re-certifications.
Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, Outlook, and be comfortable using tablets and smartphones along with other general office equipment. Ability to work with and understand databases a must and the ability to learn technical skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
The DSP shall have essential physical skills be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or

own body weight), push/pull against potential resistance, and be able to implement non-physical and physical interventions and CPR with individuals supported when needed.
The DSP shall have adequate vision, reading, writing, and documentation skills, and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
The DSP must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
The DSP will be engaged in speaking, sitting, walking, driving, listening, and in communicating both orally and in writing while performing his or her duties.
The employee must be able to listen and respond to questions and instructions.
