Seasonal Turf Maintenance Technicians

If this sounds like you, Prince George's County Parks and Recreation is the place you want to be. The Southern Region Parks Division (SRPD) is seeking Seasonal Turf Maintenance Technicians to support turf and grounds maintenance operations across multiple park locations. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, working as part of a team, and maintaining high-quality turf and landscaped areas. Seasonal Turf Maintenance Technicians play a vital role in maintaining healthy, safe, and visually appealing park grounds and facilities for community use.

Examples of Important Duties

Perform skilled turf and grounds maintenance and renovation work involving moderate responsibility and complexity
Mow, edge, trim, and maintain turf and landscaped areas
Perform brush clearing, debris blowing, grading, and site cleanup
Assist with fertilizer and pesticide application under supervision and in accordance with safety guidelines
Remove and install sod as part of turf renovation projects
Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, tractors with attachments, zero-turn mowers, utility vehicles, spreaders, sprayers, blowers, and walk-behind maintenance equipment
Perform general grounds maintenance including leaf collection, litter cleanup, fencing repair, pruning, and snow removal
Remove fallen trees and assist with storm cleanup as needed
Communicate project needs, equipment concerns, and site conditions to supervisors
Work independently or as part of a crew depending on assignment
Drive Commission vehicles upon completion of required defensive driving training, as assigned
Follow all safety procedures, departmental guidelines, and maintenance standards
Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Required:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to lift, bend, stand, walk, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Availability to work assigned schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred:
Previous experience in the athletic field maintenance, grounds maintenance, or general labor
Familiarity with hand tools and power equipment
Interest in athletic field quality, safety, and sports support
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic turf and grounds maintenance practices
Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong work ethic, reliability, and communication skills
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Supplemental Information

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
Work hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 6:00 am 2:45 pm and can include days, evenings, weekends, and holiday work. Seasonal hours are not guaranteed and may fluctuate based on program needs.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather conditions, noise, dirt, and physical activity including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
