General Ledger Manager
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The General Ledger Manager is responsible for overseeing all general ledger accounts to ensure the integrity and accuracy of MDTA's financial statements. This position ensures that all transactions are properly recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and interpretations. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supervises accounting staff performing accounting project management and related finance functions for the MDTA Division of Finance;
Oversees general ledger operations, ensuring accurate postings, journal entries, accruals, and supporting documentation;
Manages monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, trial balance review, and financial reporting schedules;
Ensures accuracy of construction, consultant, capital asset, and interagency financial data;
Maintains compliance with accounting standards, policies, and legal requirements;
Supports audits and implements corrective actions related to audit findings;
Develops and updates accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure data integrity and proper period reporting;
Supervises and mentors staff, including hiring, evaluations, training, and performance management;
Leads account analysis, reconciliations, and project accounting activities, including sub-account maintenance and project closeouts; and
Participates in system improvements and automation initiatives related to the general ledger and financial reporting.
This position will report directly to the Financial Reporting Manager. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available for this position.
