The Vice President of Broker Dealer and Middle Office Operations will lead a team responsible for the clearing, settlement, and operational management of municipal, preferred, and taxable fixed income securities for Nuveen's Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) business. As an industry leader in the SMA marketplace, Nuveen manages over $90 billion in assets across 60,000 individual client accounts. This leadership role oversees a highly regulated entity within the organization, serving as the primary operational liaison to regulators, external auditors, and industry counterparties while ensuring timely trade settlement, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation. This position requires a seasoned professional with deep broker‑dealer experience, exceptional critical thinking skills, and the ability to navigate complex operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Oversee daily clearing and settlement of municipal bond trades through the Nuveen Securities broker‑dealer, ensuring accurate delivery of block trade and client allocation instructions to custodians, sponsors, and dealers.

Supervise DVP settlement of preferred stocks and taxable fixed income securities, coordinating with counterparties, custodians, and sponsor programs within industry standards.

Serve as primary contact for regulators and auditors, maintaining documentation and producing evidence to support operational decisions.

Lead resolution of routine and complex trade errors including cancel‑rebills, reallocations, resolving short positions and Prime Broker set ups.

Leverage industry experience to navigate the complex landscape of Wirehouses, IBDs, TAMPs and RIAs.

Build and mentor a skilled team capable of critical thinking through complex situations, ensuring comprehensive cross‑training and developing succession capabilities.

Lead operational implementation for new platform launches, collaborating with technology teams, dealers, custodians, and RIAs to establish proper setup and avoid settlement disruptions.

Required Skills

5+ years of relevant experience in broker‑dealer operations with management responsibility

5+ years direct experience in the retail SMA industry

Demonstrated expertise with financial markets and separately managed accounts

Proven experience with municipal bonds, preferred stock, and taxable fixed income securities

Direct experience managing clearing operations, DTCC platforms (CTM, RTTM), custodian relationships and Prime Broker coordination

Strong understanding of financial regulations and operational risk frameworks

Preferred Skills

Series 52,53 and 99 securities licenses (or ability to obtain within specified timeframe)

Experience with broker‑dealer platforms (Broadridge BPS preferred)

Demonstrated success leading teams through high‑volume periods and system implementations

History of maintaining zero‑defect regulatory audit results

Proven ability to mentor and develop successor talent

Established industry relationships among major custodians and dealers

Base Pay Range: $110,000/yr - $145,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non‑annual sales incentive plans, or other non‑annual incentive plans).
