Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Operations
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Operations within the Rutgers Health Office of Clinical and Health Affairs. The Director serves as the principal executive leader supporting the Vice Chancellor for Graduate Medical Education & Designated Institutional Official (DIO). The role provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and ACGME accreditation compliance for all residency and fellowship programs.

Responsibilities

Directly supervise GME administrative staff, providing coaching, professional development, and performance oversight.

Manage department workflows, task prioritization, and staff assignments to align with institutional priorities and ACGME requirements.

Partner with the Vice Chancellor to develop and execute long‑term initiatives and institutional goals.

Develop and maintain reporting systems and KPIs to evaluate operational effectiveness and resource utilization.

Support new program development, institutional reviews, and the monitoring of enterprise‑wide performance.

Serve as lead project manager for major GME initiatives, ensuring cross‑functional coordination and adherence to timelines.

Maintain the GME project tracking portfolio and foster collaboration among Program Directors, Coordinators, and senior leadership.

Oversee implementation of GME policies and procedures, ensure compliance with ACGME requirements and prepare documentation for audits.

Provide expert guidance on compliance‑related matters and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of seven years of professional‑level GME experience, including at least three years of managerial experience in graduate medical education or academic medicine.

Demonstrated success leading teams, managing projects, and executing organizational priorities.

Outstanding communication, leadership, and human relations skills; ability to work in a team environment.

Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with a track record of fostering collaboration.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field.

Experience in graduate medical education administration or academic healthcare leadership.

Familiarity with ACGME accreditation requirements and institutional GME operations.

Strong understanding of organizational development, change management, and continuous quality improvement principles.

Salary
Minimum: $122,448 | Mid Range: $162,217 | Maximum: $201,985
