Emergency Dispatcher

Provides emergency 911 call taking and dispatching services. Requires specialist knowledge and advanced communication skills that are required to perform the following duties. Selects the appropriate emergency response equipment from the Fire Department Response Matrix based on the information received and the Emergency Communications Center checklists.
Performs Medical Dispatch services to callers with medical emergencies. Incumbent verifies the location and call back numbers for a medical patient, and interviews callers for the significant facts relating to the victim, including the chief compliant, age, and status of consciousness and breathing, in accordance with established M.D protocols.
Maintain maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs. Maintains a current automated outage status file and ensures oncoming senior fire officials receive current outage reports. Maintains an automated activity log of all significant daily events, vehicle movements, emergencies, processes, or notifications received through the dispatch center.
Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, voice recording equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Monitor's radio and telephone communications with police, fire, and medical field units to assure resources are available during emergencies. Refers non-emergent callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies as needed.
Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Prepares National Fire Incident Reports, (NFTRS) utilizing the correct response codes and categories to complete the response report for each emergency incident, in accordance with published guidelines. Prepares an incident report for the ACES (separate from the DoD report), using correct codes and categories in the preparation of the report, in accordance with locally established guidelines.
Provides In Flight Emergency (JFE) Dispatch information. Provides constant monitoring of both primary and secondary crash net systems. Incumbent will accurately document all IFE calls and dispatch responders within locally issued guidelines. Provides accurate and up to date information to responding units as and when that information becomes available. Liaises directly with Incident commander.
