Lifeguard Captain
Under immediate supervision, performs lifeguard duties at a municipal beach or swimming pool. Teaches beginning and advanced swimming instruction. Monitors swimmers. Provides emergency assistance when needed. Cleans and maintains the pool and pool area which includes the filtration system. Transports youth and adults. Performs related duties as required. Typical tasks include assisting in the patrolling and supervising of swimming activities at public pools and beaches. Rescues persons who are in danger of drowning. Acts as general lookout at assigned stations. Administers first aid to persons in emergency situations arising under a lifeguard's jurisdiction. Patrols unguarded beach areas. Checks on violations of beach regulations. Administers certain responsible disciplinary measures designed to enforce rules and regulations. Conducts group and individual swimming lessons. Assists in conducting swimming meets and special aquatic programs. Removes debris and other physical hazards from beach and swimming areas. Ropes off swimming areas. Posts storm warnings to swimmers. Attends institutes, special lectures, and staff meetings. Reports accidents. Makes reports and keeps records when necessary. Supervises, maintains, and uses life saving equipment. Assists in finding, restoring or reporting lost articles. Deals with large numbers of people and the problems arising at beaches and pools. Performs such other tasks as may be assigned.
A High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required. Must possess current certifications for American Red Cross Lifeguarding Training and First Aid as well as CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must have a valid Government ID - State of Ohio Driver's License or State ID. (The Diploma or GED as well as the Driver's License are not required for those persons under the age of 18 who are hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.)
The Lifeguard Captain is the lead employee and provides immediate supervision of the lifeguards, in their charge. They are responsible for the Health, Safety and well-being of the public and staff. Performs lifeguard duties at municipal swimming pools. Ensure pool water is safe for the public by taking chemical readings for Chlorine, PH, and Alkalinity daily prior to the pool opening to the public and chlorine and PH every 4 hours that the pool is open is in operation. Monitors swimmers. Provides emergency assistance when needed. Cleans and maintains the pool and pool area including the pool, the pool deck, bathrooms, locker and changing rooms, pool office, and staff areas as well as pump rooms and filtration system. Performs related duties as required.
A High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required. Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid certifications. Lifeguard Instructor LGI and Water Safety Instructor Preferred. CPO or AFO required within one year of hire. Must have a valid Government ID - State of Ohio Driver's License or State ID. (The Diploma or GED as well as the Driver's License are not required for those people under the age of 18 who are hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.)
