Canning Line Helper

2nd shift
Job Summary: The Canning Line Helper properly packages a variety of adhesives produced at Mixers 1,2, and 4. These products include, but are not limited to bonding adhesives, Low VOC bonding adhesives, and PVC bonding adhesive, etc. The Canning Line Helper also assist with training, ensuring specifications are met, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The Canning Line Helper serves as the Canning Line Operator during times when coverage is needed and may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by management.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the canning Line Operator in packaging a variety of adhesives in 1, and 5 gallon pails as well as 55-gallon drums
Put 1-gallon cans in boxes and stack on skids
Stack 5-gallon cans on skids
Band skids of finished materials
Use fork truck to take finished goods to warehouse, bring out raw materials, and packing materials as required
Put stir sticks/rollers, etc., with finished packages as required
Make boxes using an air powered staple gun
Maintain proper housekeeping in work area
Cleaning the canning line conveyors and vacuum hoist
Maintain accurate inventory levels
Fill out necessary production/QA paperwork
Date code pails and skids
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Operation of canning line and components

Lock out/Tag out procedures
Processing specification procedures
Minor maintenance of canning line
Housekeeping and job breakdown
Skills:
Basic mathematical calculations
Reading and comprehension of SDS's (Safety Data Sheet), labels, process specifications, and instructions
Filling out required paperwork
Driving a fork truck

Education & Experience:
Experience: No previous manufacturing experience required
Equipment & Data Used:
Equipment Run on the job: hoist, fork truck, air powered staple gun, and dennison date coder
Tools required on the job: pallet jack, skid, bander, shears, crimper
Data used on the job: process specifications, job breakdowns, and SDS's
Work Environment/Time Worked:
Plant ambient temperature in the summer matches outside temperature
Plant is heated in the winter
Exposure to solvent fumes when cleaning (PPE Provided)
Pinch points on moving mechanical equipment
Sharp edges on box cutters
Heavy equipment including fork truck and hoist
Uniforms are issued and laundered by company
Can be fast paced
Physical Requirements:
Climbing

must be able to climb into and out of the fork truck
Stooping

when placing finished product cartons on pallets
Kneeling

during some portions of clean out process
Crouching

when filling 5 gallon pails
Reaching

reach to get empty pails and cases
Standing

must stand for majority of the shift
Walking

walking to move finished product to the skid and to get empty containers and labels
Pushing

push full cases on skids
Pulling

pull full cases off conveyor
Lifting

lift full boxes or cans from table or floor onto skid (Cans can weigh up to 60 lbs.), Vacuum hoist is also used to assist lifting as required
Grasping

must grasp pails before filling and boxing
Talking and Hearing

communicate with other members of plant frequently
Sight

must be able to see warnings, hazards, and SDS
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Used:
Hearing Protection

Safety Glasses
PPE required for use of specific chemicals will be provided when needed
