Part Time Transit Driver

Job Title

This position reports to the EPTA Operations Coordinator and EPTA General Manager. It is comparable to BLS 53-3021, Bus Drivers, Transit. The role provides co-worker leadership through motivation, team building, and feedback.

Provides outstanding public transportation service to City of Enid residents through the safe, timely, and efficient pick up and drop off of passengers.
Essential functions and basic duties include:
Driving vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to dispatch routing in order to transport passengers, complying with all traffic regulations.
Parking vehicles at loading areas so that passengers can board.
Reporting delays, accidents, or vehicle damage.
Communicating EPTA policies and procedures to passengers.
Instructing passengers to be seated and orderly while on vehicles. Addressing and resolving passenger concerns and conflicts.
Collecting tickets or cash fares and distributing passes/coupon books.
Collecting and maintaining passenger revenues; recording cash receipts and ticket fares; turning in shift revenues to dispatch.
Performing pre-shift inspection of the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure working order prior to departure and upon return. Reporting damage and suggesting repairs as needed.
Complying with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
Reading maps, and following written and verbal geographic directions.
Regulating heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
Keeping bus interiors and exteriors clean for passengers.
Maintaining knowledge of first-aid procedures.
Acting as a dispatcher on an occasional basis to alleviate employee shortages and accommodate dispatcher lunches and breaks.
Providing assistance to other departments as needed.
Performing other duties as required.
Performance measurements include:
The EPTA division runs smoothly and efficiently.
Customers are picked up and dropped off in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
Excellent customer service is provided.
Effective working relations exist with City personnel.
New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.
Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
The City's professional reputation is maintained.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates/Licenses: Additional related training preferred.
Required knowledge:
English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.
Traffic Regulations: Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to calculate fares.
Ability to clearly and efficiently communicate using a two-way radio.
Ability to read a city map.
Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Accurate and attentive to detail.
Good communications and public relations abilities.
Ability to assist and support others.
Able to operate telephone, copier, and other basic business machines.
Physical & Mental Activities and Requirements of this Position:
Finger Dexterity: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.
Visual Abilities: Normal vision, correctable with or without corrective lenses. Normal vision includes the ability to identify basic colors and associate the meanings when driving a City vehicle, using various maps, or computer software programs. Visual ability to recognize conditions of lights, weather, and communication panels. Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
Physical Strength: PDC Level: Light Ability to ascend/descend 12" step.
Language/Comprehension: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement.
Work Schedule/Hours: Part-time: variable, not to exceed 28 hours per week, Monday through Saturday. Hours of operation are 5:00 AM

10:00 PM Monday

Friday, and 6:00 AM

10:00 PM on Saturday. General staff meeting every month on 3rd Wednesday of the month for 1.5- 2.0 hours. Due to operational nature of this public service, work on evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. OtherVariable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel.
Work Conditions: Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions. Noise Level: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Other Work Conditions: Occasional exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
