Machine Operator Helper

Wieland is hiring a 2nd Shift Machine Operator Helper. The Machine Operator Helper will be responsible for effectively running the annealing line in the production department to complete all orders on time and in line with the priority of orders on the WFS (Wieland Factory Suite) manufacturing floor computer system. This role is located in Wheeling, IL and will be fully on-site.
Hourly Pay Range: $19.00 - $21.00/hour
Shift Differential: $0.50/hour
Work Schedule: 2nd Shift (2:00 pm - 10:00 pm)
Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly

Responsibilities

Load the coil and thread in the new strip to ensure the machine can start working. Unload and tie the finished coils.
Cut the strip, bring in the new coil and stitch it to the existing one. Cut out and dismantle the stitch. (Two workers are needed)
Measure and check important values (e.g. pH-Value, degreaser test, benzo test, pickler test) to ensure they are in the correct tolerance and to be able to adjust them.
Clean the water filters/filter mats with a putty knife.
Ability to operate overhead cranes and fork truck. Cross train in other areas of Production Department.
Maintain 5S improvements. Ensure a safe and environmentally responsible plant according to applicable regulations
Reduce scrap by monitoring material quality & equipment performance. Cooperate with other areas to continuously improve quality, machine uptime, efficiency and productivity
Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent is required
Previous experience with heavy metals or similar type of manufacturing is a plus.
Ability to work with calipers, micrometers, and other types of testing equipment required
Maintain production schedule.
Ability to work short notice overtime or scheduled required overtime.
Monitor material quality including flatness, gauge, hardness, grain size and surface finish
Ensure proper identification of coils and samples
Achieve production throughput, yield and scrap goals
Physical Demands

Ability to stand, balance, walk, and reach for extended periods. Negotiate stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and platforms. Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Walk over uneven and/or slippery surfaces.
Exposure to production environments that are not temperature controlled.
Manual dexterity for handling and manipulating items, samples, and tools.
Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
Use hands and fingers to handle, touch or manipulate items.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
