Definition
These are full-time (Professionals) positions in the City's Development Services Department, Permits and Inspections Division. Individuals in this position will ensure compliance with residential and commercial codes and city ordinances. Reporting relationship: Building Official.
Examples of Work
Performs inspection of residential and commercial buildings; mechanical, electrical, plumbing; private infrastructure; change of occupant; and swimming pool inspections for compliance with City codes and ordinances;
Coordinates inspections with other City departments and utility operators for commercial building projects;
Conducts research; reviews construction plans and applications; reviews professional surveys;
Interacts with architects, engineers, developers, general contractors and property owners concerning plans, specifications and building code requirements; advises on relevant matters such as construction, repair methods and materials;
Meets with contractors and homeowners concerning plans, specifications and building code requirements;
Investigates citizen complaints concerning violation of city building codes and ordinances; makes independent judgments and sound recommendations based on findings;
Perform other related duties as assigned;
Subject to 24-hour recall.
Education, Experience, or Certification
Building Inspector II: High School Diploma or General Education Certificate (GED), a minimum of four (4) years relevant professional experience. One International Code Certification or the ability to obtain one ICC Certification within three (3) years required.
Building Inspector III: High School Diploma or General Education Certificate (GED); minimum of eight (8) years relevant professional experience. One International Code Certification or the ability to obtain one ICC Certification within one (1) year, State of Texas licensed plumbing inspector license or the ability to obtain within 24 months of employment required.
Supplemental Information
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
