Associate General Counsel (Real Estate) – Miami, FL
The Director, Associate General Counsel, is a key member of Lennar’s in‑house legal team who provides practical, business‑oriented legal support on land acquisition, land development, entitlement, title, construction, and related real‑estate matters for one or more divisions or regions. The role partners closely with division leadership and cross‑functional teams to structure, negotiate, and close transactions; manage legal risk; support internal approvals; oversee outside counsel where appropriate; and help move communities from deal evaluation through closing and development execution.

Responsibilities

Lead a workstream or regional portfolio within the Real Estate practice area, with primary responsibility for land acquisition, land banking, land development, title, entitlement, construction, and related real‑estate matters; prioritize the legal pipeline, allocate work, and ensure timely, high‑quality, and risk‑balanced delivery of legal services in support of business objectives.

Provide practical, timely, and business‑forward legal advice to division and region leadership, translating legal requirements, deal risks, and commercial considerations into clear, actionable guidance that enables informed decision‑making and efficient execution.

Oversee, draft, negotiate, and resolve complex agreements and matters—including purchase and sale agreements, development and reimbursement agreements, easements, access agreements, and other transaction documents—exercising sound judgment in managing legal risk, commercial objectives, and regulatory obligations.

Support zoning, entitlement, development, and construction‑related legal requirements, coordinating with business teams and senior legal leadership to address issues, satisfy conditions, and enable timely transaction execution.

Manage matter‑level financial responsibilities, including oversight of moderate outside counsel and settlement spend, budget tracking, and cost‑conscious decision‑making consistent with approved frameworks and escalation thresholds.

Develop and implement legal standards, processes, and playbooks for the Real Estate practice area, ensuring consistent application of policies, adherence to enterprise legal frameworks, and effective documentation and records integrity.

Lead and mentor individual‑contributor attorneys and legal professionals as applicable, providing guidance on complex matters, reinforcing best practices, and supporting professional development and performance expectations.

Serve as a key legal partner to business leaders, collaborating across functions—including Land Acquisition, Land Development, Finance, Operations, Risk, and Title—to anticipate legal risks, support transactions and development initiatives, and deliver timely, practical legal solutions aligned with organizational priorities and values.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in the U.S.

10‑15 years of legal experience, with substantial experience in real‑estate transactions, land acquisition, land development, homebuilding, commercial real‑estate, construction, or closely related practice.

Strong experience drafting and negotiating acquisition agreements and related transaction documents, and advising on title, survey, diligence, entitlement, closing, and development‑related issues.

Ability to provide clear, practical, risk‑balanced advice to business leaders and cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Strong negotiation, analytical, judgment, and communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and day‑to‑day execution levels.

Strong leadership skills with experience managing legal teams and external counsel.

Prior experience in a senior in‑house legal role or comparable law firm position.

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements
This is primarily a sedentary office position that requires the incumbent to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move, and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is required.

Compensation & Benefits
Base compensation is expected to range from an annual salary of $194,072 to $237,185, subject to adjustment based on business‑related factors such as employee qualifications and geographic pay differentials.

The position may be eligible for bonuses, commissions, and the described benefits listed in the above section in accordance with Company Policy.
