Under general supervision.
Performs routine cleaning tasks: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting.
Clean and restock restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
Empty trash ensuring proper disposal procedures.
Maintain floors, including buffing, waxing, and carpet cleaning as needed.
Perform minor maintenance: Lightbulb replacement, unstopping drains, tightening fixtures, and checking equipment functionality.
Assign daily cleaning routes, tasks, and special projects to custodial staff.
Train new custodians in cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use.
Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to supervisors or management.
Maintain coverage schedules to ensure all shifts and buildings are properly staffed.
Ensure custodial staff follow safety procedures, including chemical handling, PPE use, and equipment operation.
Conduct routine safety inspections of work areas and report hazards immediately.
Oversee proper storage and labeling of cleaning chemicals.
Conduct regular walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness meets organizational standards.
Identify maintenance issues (HVAC problems, leaks, electrical issues) and report them to maintenance or facilities management.
Document completed work, supply usage, and incident reports.
Provide recommendations for facility improvements or operational efficiency.
Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and restroom products.
Submit supply orders or requests to management to avoid shortages.
Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot custodial equipment such as floor machines and vacuums.
Keep custodial closets organized and secure.
Assist in setting up and tearing down furniture or equipment for meetings and facility events.
Oversee major cleaning activities: deep cleaning, post-construction cleanup, or emergency cleaning.
Support snow removal, grounds maintenance, and seasonal tasks when needed.
Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, building occupants, or administration regarding cleaning concerns.
Respond promptly to special cleaning requests, spills, or urgent issues.
Maintain clear communication with supervisors regarding needs, issues, and progress.
Other duties as assigned.
