Sheriff's Dispatcher I
This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time without notice. Applicants must be willing to work any shift including evenings and weekends and any 5 of 7 days. 5% additional pay for evening shift work; 7 % additional pay for night shift work.
Examinations: Performance Exam (Qualifying Only): Will consist of an exercise utilizing an emergency dispatch console monitor. The Human Resources Division may limit the number advancing to the oral exam to approximately the top 30, based upon the final earned results of the performance examination. Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising training, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. The Human Resources Division may solely conduct a performance examination should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral examination. Should an oral examination be necessary, the oral examination will be weighted at 100%.
Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Experience with a keyboard similar to that on a micro-computer is desirable. Ability to typewrite from clear copy at a rate of not less than 45 net words per minute.
Applicants must attach a copy of their keyboard certificate, issued within the last two years, verifying a speed of forty-five (45) net words per minute to their application or the application may not be accepted. Certificates must conform to the testing standards adopted by the Civil Service Commission. Go to the Human Resources Division's website for information about where to obtain a certificate.
Appointees will be fingerprinted and will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. Medical Examination: A medical examination shall be conducted to verify the absence of any medical condition which would preclude the safe and efficient performance of dispatcher duties.
Note: Candidates employed in the classification of Sheriff Dispatch Assistant must have completed the required one-year probationary period in this classification before promoting to Sheriff's Dispatcher I.
