Recording Secretary
Location: Nauset Public Schools
The Recording Secretary to the School Committee is responsible for accurately recording, preparing, and maintaining official records of School Committee meetings as well as executive sessions. The position coordinates with the school committee chair as well as the central office/superintendent's office as necessary. This position ensures compliance with Massachusetts Open Meeting Law and public records requirements while supporting transparent and efficient governance of the school district.
Key Responsibilities
Meeting Preparation & Support
Attend all Town School Committee meetings and subcommittee meetings
Minute Taking & Documentation
Record accurate, clear, and concise minutes of all meetings
Capture motions, votes, discussions, and key decisions in accordance with legal requirements
Prepare draft minutes in a timely manner for review and approval
Maintain official records of approved minutes and meeting documents and provide them to the Central office/superintendent office.
Compliance & Public Records
Ensure all minutes comply with Massachusetts Open Meeting Law
Maintain records in accordance with public records retention laws
Communication & Coordination
Distribute finalized minutes and official documents to appropriate stakeholders
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information
Education & Experience
High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
Prior experience in administrative support, municipal government, or school district operations preferred
Experience with minute-taking or transcription strongly preferred
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of Massachusetts Open Meeting Law and public records requirements (or ability to learn quickly)
Excellent written communication and note-taking skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to summarize discussions clearly and objectively
Proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently
Work Conditions
Part-time position with evening hours required to attend School Committee meetings
Occasional additional hours for preparation and document finalization
Hybrid or in-person attendance based on district needs
Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Availability: May 1, 2026
