Periodontal Assistant

A Periodontal Assistant supports a licensed periodontist in delivering specialized dental care focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease and placement of dental implants. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and excellent patient communication.
Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:
Assist the periodontist during surgical and non-surgical periodontal procedures
Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and treatment rooms
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays)
Assist with procedures such as:
Scaling and root planing
Periodontal surgery
Crown lengthening
Dental implant placement
Bone and tissue grafting
Monitor patients' vital signs during procedures
Provide post-operative instructions and care guidance
Maintain accurate clinical notes and patient records
Infection Control & Safety:
Follow OSHA and CDC infection control guidelines
Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments
Ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials
Maintain a clean and organized operatory
Administrative Support:
Schedule patient appointments
Verify patient medical histories
Maintain inventory of supplies and order materials
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program (preferred)
Current Dental Assistant certification (varies by state)
Radiology certification (if required by state)
CPR/BLS certification
Preferred Experience

12 years of dental assisting experience
Experience in periodontal or surgical dental settings
Familiarity with dental software systems (e.g., Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend)
