Summary
The Sr. API & Middleware Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, and optimization of enterprise integration platforms and API solutions. This role ensures reliable, secure, and scalable data exchange across cloud and on-premise systems while supporting modernization initiatives. The position combines architectural oversight with operational accountability and will help establish and mature the organization's API capabilities and standards.
Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the API and middleware team, driving performance and technical growth
• Own integration and API platform operations, including availability, scalability, and security
• Design and support integrations between
Azure services and enterprise platforms such as SAP, Snowflake, and on-prem systems
• Help establish and grow the organization's
API practice , including standards, governance, and lifecycle management
• Manage the API lifecycle from design through deployment, monitoring, and versioning
• Implement and maintain
API monitoring and observability
to ensure service performance and reliability
• Oversee incident, change, and problem management for middleware and API services
• Partner with application, infrastructure, security, and business teams to align integration solutions with enterprise needs
• Monitor service metrics and drive automation and performance improvements
Requirements
• 5+ years of experience working with middleware and API platforms
• 2+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity
• Strong knowledge of integration patterns, API gateways, and middleware technologies
• Experience integrating
cloud platforms (Azure preferred) with enterprise systems such as SAP, Snowflake, and on-prem applications
• Solid understanding of IT service management practices;
ITIL experience preferred
• Hands-on experience with middleware and integration tools such as
WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat, Kafka, MuleSoft, and Postman
• Experience working with containerization and orchestration platforms (
Docker, Kubernetes )
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and API management services (
Azure API Management, AWS, Azure DevOps )
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as
Python or Bash
• Experience managing vendors and third-party support relationships
Bonus Skills
• Experience designing highly available, scalable integration architectures
• Background in automation, Azure DevOps, or infrastructure-as-code
• Experience supporting hybrid and multi-cloud environments
• Familiarity with security frameworks for APIs (
OAuth, OpenID Connect, token-based authentication )
• Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and business teams
