Shipping & Receiving Specialist
Cannon Industries, Inc., a growing sheet metal fabrication company, is seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Specialist to support daily warehouse and production logistics. This role is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing materials, verifying shipments, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting production flow in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operationspreferably within manufacturing or sheet metal fabricationand demonstrates strong attention to detail, organization, and safety awareness.
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring hands-on coordination with production, purchasing, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and process outgoing shipments including fabricated sheet metal components, assemblies, and raw materials
Package products appropriately to prevent damage during transit
Generate shipping labels, bills of lading, packing slips, and other documentation
Coordinate shipments using UPS, FedEx, freight carriers, and local delivery services
Schedule freight pickups and coordinate delivery timelines
Verify accuracy of shipments against work orders and customer requirements
Maintain shipping logs and tracking documentation
Receive incoming materials including sheet metal, hardware, tooling, and supplies
Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage
Verify purchase orders and packing slips
Document discrepancies and coordinate resolution with purchasing or vendors
Label and properly store received materials
Deliver materials to production areas as required
Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts
Organize warehouse and storage areas for efficiency and safety
Monitor material levels and communicate shortages to purchasing
Maintain clean, organized, and safe shipping/receiving areas
Assist with material movement throughout production areas
Coordinate with production team to prioritize shipments
Support just-in-time material delivery to fabrication teams
Assist with staging materials for upcoming production jobs
Ensure proper documentation accompanies all work orders
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations
Experience in manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication environment preferred
Experience with freight carriers and shipping systems (UPS, FedEx, LTL, etc.)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to read work orders, packing slips, and purchase orders
Basic computer skills (Excel, inventory systems, ERP preferred)
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout warehouse and production floor
Ability to operate forklifts and material handling equipment (certification preferred or willing to obtain)
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
Forklift certification
Experience with ERP or inventory management systems
Experience in sheet metal fabrication or metal manufacturing
Familiarity with manufacturing documentation and work orders
