Hours: Mon-Thurs 3pm - 1:30am (Training can be on 1st shift for 1-2 months)
Pay: $20 - 28 (for higher pay will need specific Flexo experience)
Job Description
The Flexographic Printing Press Operator sets up, operates, and troubleshoots a flexographic printing press, ensuring high-quality output and efficient production. This role independently manages press setup, including ink matching, plate mounting, and tuning of rollers, plates, and dies, often running up to four colors. The operator accurately documents materials and time used, supports continuous improvement, and contributes to a safe, clean, and collaborative production environment.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate a flexographic printing press to produce high-quality printed materials, often running up to four colors.
Independently perform complete press setup, including ink matching, mounting of plates, and tuning of rollers, plates, and dies.
Troubleshoot press issues during setup and production to minimize downtime and maintain consistent print quality.
Perform basic die cutting setup and operation as needed to support production requirements.
Inspect printed materials for quality, accuracy, and consistency, and make adjustments to the press as required.
Use a computer system to document and record all materials used, time expended, and production details accurately.
Operate a forklift as needed to move materials, rolls, and finished product safely within the facility.
Follow established procedures and guidelines for lean manufacturing and contribute ideas to improve processes and efficiency.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a modern, well-kept printing facility.
Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet production goals and support cross-functional initiatives.
Participate in training and learning opportunities to expand skills and support internal advancement.
Essential Skills
2+ years of print operating experience, ideally with flexographic presses, press operation, or die cutting equipment.
1+ year of experience setting up printing or converting equipment, including mechanical and operational setup.
1+ year of troubleshooting experience on printing or related production machinery.
1+ year of computer experience for documenting and recording materials, time, and production data.
Hands-on experience with flexographic printing, press operation, or die cutter operation.
Ability to perform ink matching, plate mounting, and tuning of rollers, plates, and dies.
Basic inspection skills to verify print quality and identify defects.
Ability to safely operate a forklift or willingness to learn and become certified if required.
Comfort working with roll-fed equipment and moving large rolls of material.
Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude to adjust and maintain press performance.
Work Environment
This role is based in a clean, well-maintained, and smaller-scale printing facility that emphasizes a friendly and respectful atmosphere. The environment is roll-fed and flexographic-focused, with modern printing and converting equipment and a strong emphasis on lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. Employees receive company-branded items such as water bottles and t-shirts, and are encouraged to share ideas to improve processes; creative suggestions can be recognized through drawings and rewards such as flat screen TVs. The typical schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., offering a four-day workweek, with initial training potentially taking place on first shift for 12 months.
