A privately held manufacturing company in the plastics industry is seeking a hands-on Controller or CFO to lead accounting and financial operations. This role is well-suited for a strong manufacturing Controller ready to take on broader responsibility or an experienced CFO who enjoys being close to the business and operations.
The Opportunity
This position offers high visibility with senior leadership and the Board, along with the chance to play a key role in financial stewardship, reporting, and operational partnership. The organization values practical decision-making, collaboration, and leaders who want to understand how the business runs day to day.
Key Responsibilities for the Controller/CFO:
- Lead all accounting and financial operations for a multi-site manufacturing business
- Own month-end and year-end close processes, including inventory and cost accounting
- Prepare and present financial results for quarterly Board meetings
- Manage and develop a small accounting team covering AP, AR, payroll, and IT support
- Review and approve payment runs, payroll, commissions, journal entries, and credit memos
- Coordinate with banking partners and external resources
- Maintain lease schedules, fixed assets, and supporting financial documentation
- Partner closely with operations and plant leadership to understand production and inventory activity
- Support HR, IT, and administrative functions as part of the leadership team
Ideal Candidate Profile for the Controller/CFO:
- Prior experience as a Controller or CFO within a manufacturing environment
- Strong, hands-on accounting background (not purely strategic)
- Experience in organizations in the $15M–$30M revenue range
- Background in inventory-intensive manufacturing environments
- Proven people leadership and ability to develop a small team
- Comfortable working onsite and engaging with operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Experience in plastics, industrial manufacturing, or toll manufacturing is a plus
