The Senior Accountant is a full-time role reporting to the Director of Accounting. This position supports the overall financial operations of the institution and plays a key role in general ledger accounting, student accounts, endowment and fund accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll support, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant ensures accurate financial records and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, internal policies, and board directives.


OVERVIEW OF THE SENIOR ACCOUNTANT ROLE:



  • Assist with the timely preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulations.

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, student accounts, and fixed assets.

  • Record and maintain accurate general ledger entries and supporting documentation.

  • The Senior Accountant will perform bank and account reconciliations.

  • Support endowment and fund accounting activities.

  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting.

  • The Senior Accountant will participate in the annual audit process and respond to auditor requests.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support overall financial operations and process improvements.

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SENIOR ACCOUNTANT ROLE:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant accounting or financial experience.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Proficiency with financial information systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or endowment/fund accounting (preferred).
