We're looking for a reliable, safety-focused Part-Time Driver, approximately 20 hours per week, to support blind and visually impaired consumers in the Charleston area and to and from the Columbia District Office. This position is responsible for transporting consumers to low vision clinics, SCCB-related appointments, and other approved program services, ensuring safe, timely, and professional transportation. The ideal candidate is dependable, courteous, and comfortable working with individuals with disabilities while maintaining strict attention to safety, confidentiality, and scheduling. Duties include:
Safely transport SCCB consumers to and from:
Low vision clinics
SCCB-related appointments and services
Other approved program destinations as assigned
Provide professional, respectful assistance to consumers during pick-up and drop-off (e.g., verbal guidance, door-to-door support as appropriate)
Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and required documentation
Communicate effectively with SCCB staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns
Operate SCCB vehicles in compliance with state policies, traffic laws, and safety procedures
Conduct basic vehicle checks (fuel level, cleanliness, safety readiness) and report maintenance needs promptly
Protect consumer confidentiality in accordance with SCCB policies and applicable regulations
Minimum and Additional Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record. At least 1-year of driving experience. Proficiency using GPS device. Additional Requirements: Knowledge of or ability to understand state laws or practices pertaining to the operation of vehicles on state highway. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written and keep accurate documentation. This person must be able to work as part of a team and apply reasonable sound judgement in all situations. Exhibit courtesy and professionalism towards others at all times. Under limited supervision, the employee maintains the principles, practices and policies of the SC Commission for the Blind. Strong reliability, punctuality, and attention to safety. Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with blind and visually impaired individuals. Ability to follow schedules, directions, and SCCB policies. Ability to assist passengers entering and exiting vehicles as needed. Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a vehicle safely. Ability to lift and handle mobility aids (e.g., folding walkers) as required.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience transporting individuals with disabilities, older adults, or medical clients.
Familiarity with the Charleston area and surrounding communities.
Experience working in human services, healthcare, or government settings.
