CNC Machinist Set-Up Technician

The primary functions of the CNC Machinist Set-Up Technician are to set-up CNC machines with jobs for production in a productive, high quality, and safe manner. Setting up the CNC machines to obtain an acceptable first piece inspection is the focus of their job.
Essential Functions for CNC Machinist Set-Up Technician
Create and edit CNC Machine programs
Functional understanding on how to read engineering drawings
Lays out all Tooling and Gages at CNC Machine to be setup
Returns (upload) previous job program from CNC Machine and get (download) new job program to CNC Machine
Installs all tooling into the CNC machine turret tool positions
Touches off tools and update program with proper tool positions
Troubleshoots CNC machine problems as needed
Provides assistance and guidance to CNC Operators
Inspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality parts
Perform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sample
Follows all company safety and environmental policies and procedures
Change tools, make machine adjustments and offsets as necessary
Communicates problems; makes suggestions for solutions
Perform the job with minimal supervision
Employee will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
2+ years setting up CNC Machines
High School Diploma or equivalent
Mechanically inclined in machine setups
Working knowledge and use of tools and measuring equipment
Language Skills:
Basic English Communication Skills
Mathematical Skills:
Basic Math Skills (measuring, use of calculator)
Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish tester
Have their own or purchase a Venier Caliper for measuring parts and eye loop for inspecting parts
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to carry out detailed and involved written and verbal instructions
Physical Demands:
Must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hear
Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms
Employee is occasionally required to walk
Specific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Will work with moving mechanical parts and is exposed to vibration
Work in a machine shop environment where floors may be slippery due to oil spills, use of aqueous degreasing solution for floor cleanup, and metal chips
Noise level is usually moderate for a manufacturing plant
Work where a forklift is being operated
Safely remove bar stock from cantilever racks
