Machinist Apprentice

Assist machinists by performing duties such as supplying or holding materials or tools, maintaining machinery and/or cleaning work area and equipment. Under the direction of a trained and seasoned machinist, may also learn skills in effectively operating a mill and/or lathe machine.
Principle responsibilities include:
Works with seasoned machinists to begin learning about machine shop.
Learns about machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Learning to maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting; including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:
Education

High School Diploma/GED or currently enrolled and at least 16 years of age.
Experience

None required.
Must be willing to work toward an apprenticeship or Stolle-approved courses for the Machinist Apprenticeship.
This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
Work schedule generally consists of 30- 40 hours per week which may also require nights or a rotating shift.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
