Position Description
The Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) is a leading academic institution dedicated to improving oral and systemic human health through education, research, and clinical innovation. It offers a unique interdisciplinary environment for teaching, research, service, and clinical activity that integrates dentistry with the broader health sciences community.

The Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity (OMII) seeks full‑time faculty to serve as Assistant or Associate Professors in Oral Medicine and/or Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. Faculty will contribute to the department’s mission of advancing biomedical sciences and translating research findings into clinical practice.

Responsibilities

Provide educational leadership as Course Director for discipline‑specific courses and oversee clinic‑based teaching and student assessment.

Calibrate faculty and mentor teaching staff.

Lead administrative functions as Discipline Director, contributing to accreditation documentation, curriculum improvement, and coordination of clinical rotations with affiliated hospitals.

Mentor and support independent and collaborative research activities in OM/OMP.

Supervise DMD students in OM/OMP clinical cases and oversee head and neck cancer screening and diagnostic services.

Offer OM/OMP consultations in the teaching clinic and participate in clinical practice (up to 20%).

Provide bench or clinical research opportunities through HSDM laboratories or affiliated Harvard institutions.

Mentor DMD and graduate students in research and serve on thesis advisory committees.

Basic Qualifications

DDS or DMD degree (or international equivalent).

Completion of an advanced postgraduate training program in Oral Medicine and/or Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology.

Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Oral Medicine and/or Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (as applicable).

Eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts, whether full or limited faculty licensure.

Demonstrated record of scholarly activity and academic productivity.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in course leadership or academic administration.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship.

Evidence of research productivity or potential for sustained scholarly impact.

Experience working with diverse student populations.

Advanced degree (e.g., MS, PhD, DMSc) in a related biomedical field preferred.

Salary Range
Assistant Professor: $125,000 – $180,000. Associate Professor: $165,000 – $250,000. Salary within these ranges will be determined by experience, discipline, rank, and available budget.
