Overview
Job Purpose
The Acquisition Business Analyst is responsible for leading end-to-end data conversion efforts as part of customer loan acquisition projects. This role owns the analytical success of each conversion, from initial data discovery and mapping through testing, validation, and go-live support.
The Business Analyst works closely with programmers, consultants, project managers, and client stakeholders and serves as the primary analytical and diagnostic lead, translating complex data into accurate mappings that convert appropriately into MSP. This role requires strong critical thinking, structured problem-solving, and comfort working in ambiguity, often within tight timelines.
The Acquisition Business Analyst leads and owns the analytical execution of acquisition data conversion projects. This role is responsible for ensuring that converted data is accurate, complete, and functions correctly within MSP and related systems.
This is a hands-on, outcome-driven analyst role. Success requires the ability to investigate complex data issues, determine what the problem is

Responsibilities
Project Ownership & Delivery
Lead assigned acquisition data conversion projects from intake through final validation and implementation
Own analytical outcomes and data accuracy for assigned projects
Complete active projects within established timelines and escalate risks proactively
Manage and prioritize personal workload across multiple concurrent projects, adjusting priorities as demands change
Data Analysis, Mapping & Conversion Design
Analyze source data to understand structure, behavior, quality, and business meaning
Translate complex data and customer business rules into detailed mapping specifications for conversion into MSP
Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, edge cases, and assumptions where documentation may be incomplete or unclear
Partner with programmers to clarify conversion logic and validate technical implementation against business intent
Testing, Validation & Issue Investigation
Define and execute test approaches to validate data completeness, accuracy, and functional correctness
Analyze test results, reconciliations, and discrepancies to determine root cause
Independently research conversion issues using process-of-elimination and hypothesis-driven analysis
Diagnose whether issues originate from source data, mapping logic, transformation processes, timing, or system behavior
Verify resolutions through re-testing and documented validation
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the primary client-facing analytical resource for assigned projects
Explain complex and sometimes ambiguous data issues and solutions to non-technical stakeholders
Support customers throughout the project lifecycle, including discovery, testing, and implementation phases
Provide timely, thorough follow-up on client questions, findings, and issue status
Team Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with programmers, consultants, and project managers to drive analytical clarity and issue resolution
Coordinate handoffs between analysis, development, and testing activities
Provide clear analytical guidance to project team members to keep projects moving forward
Process & Continuous Improvement
Identify recurring data or conversion issues and contribute to process improvements
Participate in the development and maintenance of departmental documentation and standards
Identify issues that may impact multiple projects or clients and collaborate with teams on resolution approaches
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
4+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, mortgage technology, or data conversion roles
Acquisition and/or system conversion experience
Working knowledge of MSP and mortgage servicing data domains
Strong understanding of how data is extracted, interpreted, transformed, and mapped between disparate source systems and target platforms, including how data behavior changes across systems
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to reason through complex data scenarios where the solution is not immediately apparent.
Skilled in forming hypotheses, testing assumptions, and using evidence to eliminate potential causes.
Able to solve complex, multi-variable data and system issues through structured investigation rather than predefined answers
Takes ownership of problems from identification through validated resolution
Comfortable working with incomplete or ambiguous requirements and validating assumptions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data behavior clearly
Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple complex projects concurrently
Detail-oriented while able to identify patterns and systemic issues
Collaborative team player who takes ownership and drives issues to resolution
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within tight timelines and shifting priorities
Willingness to travel to client sites as necessary - Estimated 10-15%.
