Camp Eastman: Day Camp Counselor
Camp Eastman, operated by the YMCA of Metro North out of the Torigian Family YMCA Branch, is now hiring Day Camp Counselors for Summer 2026. These seasonal positions offer meaningful work supporting children in a safe, engaging, and inclusive camp environment while building valuable leadership and professional skills.
This opportunity is open to individuals who are passionate about working with youth and making a positive impact in their community.
General Responsibilities
Day Camp Counselors supervise and lead groups of campers through daily activities while creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. Counselors are expected to actively participate in all camp programming, model positive behavior, and support campers' social, emotional, and physical development.
Staff must maintain a high level of energy, patience, professionalism, and compassion while working with campers, families, and fellow staff members in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Counselors are expected to:
Lead games and daily activities
Teach life skills through healthy, age-appropriate programming
Serve as a positive role model for campers
Work collaboratively as part of a team
Maintain a positive attitude throughout all camp activities and routines
Camp Schedule & Employment Details
Camp Hours: 7:45 AM 4:00 PM
PM Care Available: 4:00 5:30 PM
Weekly Hours: 2045 hours, based on enrollment
Employment Type: Seasonal (Summer)
Mandatory trainings required prior to the start of camp
Additional trainings held throughout June
First Aid, CPR, and AED training provided if not already certified
Hiring Process

Applications are reviewed for Camp Eastman placement
Selected candidates are invited to a one-on-one interview with a Camp Director
Background screening (CORI and SORI) and four reference checks
Employment offer extended upon successful completion
Entry Requirements
Prior childcare experience preferred
Must be at least 16 years old by June 15, 2026
Experience supervising and leading children
High level of energy, patience, professionalism, and compassion
Strong role model with integrity and adaptability
Sound judgment, problem-solving, and risk-management skills
Positive communication skills with children, families, and staff
Ability to follow directions and work as part of a cohesive team
Willingness to go above and beyond job expectations
First Aid and CPR certification (training provided if needed)
