Park Maintenance Worker

Essential Functions
Operate various types of trucks and light equipment; performs manual labor in the maintenance, repair and minor construction of ball fields, recreation facilities, parks, and buildings. Assign, schedule, and supervise seasonal staff. Maintain material and equipment inventory. Service and maintain equipment used in the maintenance of turf and park grounds. Oversee the watering, seeding, and maintenance of landscaping (flowers and plantings). Maintain turf with applications of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Trim trees and shrubs. Irrigate, water, mow, edge, aerate, and maintain turf. Coordinate work with recreational staff and facility user groups to prepare parks prior to and during special events. Prepare and maintain tennis courts, ball fields, soccer fields, splash pads, basketball courts, volleyball courts, swimming pools, and extensive winter snow and ice removal. Maintain effective working relations with facility users. Maintain park playground equipment and park facilities with minor building maintenance and remodeling. Assist irrigation specialist with irrigation installation, repair, maintenance, plumbing, and related tasks. Perform overtime as required and other duties as assigned. Supervision - Responsibility for Work of Others: Assist with the supervision of seasonal workers in field work as assigned. Assigned projects are performed properly and efficiently. Maintain and safely operate equipment. Apply and maintain knowledge of the current methods, equipment, materials and tools to effectively maintain and care for shrubs, trees, plants and grass. Physical Demands of Essential Job Functions: Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects Climbing/Balancing: Climbs inclines and ladders, uneven surfaces, balance required Walking: Extensive amount required Stooping/Bending: Frequently Stand/Sit: Sit about 20 percent of the time Reaching: Frequent, overhead as well as horizontal Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions Color Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions Hearing: Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear Speech: Moderate need to express ideas by means of spoken word Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Frequently operates vehicles, equipment and tools requiring moderate ability Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment and tools requiring manual ability Essential Job Functions/Exposures: Inside/Outside: Work inside and outside (primarily outside) Cold/Heat: Adverse conditions possible Wet/Dry: Adverse conditions possible Noise/Vibrations: Equipment noise Hazards: Frequent exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, equipment, vehicles, sharp objects and height Fumes/Dust/Odors: Frequent exposure to dust; occasional exposure to fumes and odors Infectious Diseases: Low exposure Mental Requirements of Essential Job Functions: Ability to read and comprehend written material. Ability to listen and apply information and instructions. Ability to understand mathematical concepts to include basic arithmetic. Ability to organize information for concise written records.
Qualifications
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements: Require a high school diploma/GED and experience in ground maintenance, nursery or landscape work. Must possess a valid Nebraska driver's license and the ability to obtain an EPA pesticide applicator's license within 12 months of hire. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Residency Requirements: None.
