Job Summary
Performs diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, MRI safety considerations and provides a quality patient care experience. Initiates life support measures as necessary. Interacts effectively with patients and their family members, physicians, and other health care workers. Has extensive knowledge of operation of all MRI equipment. Positions the patient and provides for comfort during the exam. Administers contrast material as required. Obtains patient history and clinical indication for MRI study. Accurately documents in patient records. Utilizes electronic medical record software for accurate scheduling and billing procedures. Possesses the ability to professionally obtain information from patients or their responsible parties, to further improve their personalized treatment and care.
On a continuum, the technologist works to develop an understanding of the patient's physical and emotional status. Extensive knowledge of cross-section anatomy. Works well with all ages of patients.
Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic MRI exams following established procedures and safety guidelines.
Apply professional judgment in procedure performance and patient care.
Ensure patient comfort and positioning during the exam.
Administer contrast material as required and monitor for adverse reactions.
Obtain patient history and clinical indications for MRI study.
Accurately document in patient records and use electronic medical records for scheduling and billing.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care workers.
May participate in on-call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed by the facility.
May perform mobile imaging, EKG, cardiac monitor placement, and DEXA procedures as applicable.
Qualifications
Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA-approved or JRCERT-approved program.
MRI training or experience preferred.
ARRT certification or ARMRIT certification required at the time of hire.
MRI certification or certification within two years post-hire preferred per accreditation requirements (DICOE/ACR).
If working in North Dakota and performing imaging procedures, licensure through the ND Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRT) is required.
BLS certification within six weeks of employment and recertification as required.
