Lead Workday Extend Architect
Location:

Remote (U.S.-based; East Coast preferred)

Our client is seeking a Lead Workday Extend Architect to serve as the primary authority and technical owner of Workday Extend, filling a critical gap in their current engineering team.
This is not a standard development role. This position requires a hands-on architect who can independently design, build, and scale complex Workday Extend solutions within a highly integrated enterprise environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in stabilizing and evolving a recently implemented Workday platform while contributing to broader architectural transformation initiatives. You will join a dedicated engineering function responsible for the most technical areas of the Workday ecosystem, including Extend, integrations, and advanced platform capabilities. The environment includes 250+ integrations and is actively evolving, with significant architectural changes planned across systems, data, and platform strategy.
This role is being hired with urgency to establish in-house Extend expertise, as this capability does not currently exist within the team. What You’ll Be Responsible For

Act as the enterprise lead for Workday Extend, owning architecture, development standards, and governance
Design and deliver end-to-end Extend applications from concept through production support
Architect scalable, secure solutions using Workday APIs, events, and orchestration frameworks
Operate as a true solution architect, capable of designing systems independently without oversight
Partner with integration, security, and functional teams to align solutions with enterprise standards
Establish and enforce SDLC, testing, and release management practices across Workday tenants
Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and hands-on development
Contribute to broader platform evolution, including integration strategy and system architecture changes
What We’re Looking For (Critical Requirements)

Proven experience architecting and delivering Workday Extend solutions in production
Deep hands-on expertise in:

Workday Extend (UI frameworks, Orchestrations, data services)
Workday APIs and integrations
Event-driven architecture

Strong understanding of:

Workday security model
Business process framework
Tenant strategy and data governance

Experience operating in complex, highly integrated environments (large-scale integrations, enterprise systems)
Ability to clearly determine when to extend Workday vs. leverage native functionality
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
8–10+ years of experience in enterprise application development or Workday technical roles
Workday Extend certification (or ability to obtain)
