
Functional Safety Engineer (Michigan)

Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Functional Safety Engineers to support Compute Platform programs with a focus on safety concept development, safety requirements, and hardware/software safety integration. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in automotive functional safety, system architecture, and safety analysis activities aligned with industry standards such as ISO 26262.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Safety Support
Support review and development of Technical Safety Concepts (TSC) and safety requirements.
Refine existing requirements aligned with system functional architecture.
Conduct safety analysis to support concept and requirement development.
Support additional safety concepts at component level for Compute Platform subsystems when required.
Additional Safety Engineering Support
Support development and review of safety-rated Ethernet switch implementation, assumptions of use, and requirement development.
Provide software integration support as needed.
Support development of safety requirements based on base vehicle assumptions of use.
Create Hardware-Software Interface documentation for whitebox safety components.
Perform Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA) and recommend mitigation strategies for hardware components.
Provide support for Hardware FMEA activities as required.
Participate in additional functional safety activities based on project needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in Functional Safety / Automotive Safety Engineering.
Strong knowledge of ISO 26262, HARA, FMEA, DFA, TSC, FSC.
Experience with embedded systems, hardware/software interfaces, and vehicle electrical architectures.
Knowledge of Ethernet communication systems and safety-related network architectures.
Experience in system requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Jama, etc.
Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Compute Platform / ECU / ADAS / Autonomous systems.
Exposure to safety case development and validation activities.
Experience working with cross-functional teams in automotive OEM or supplier environment.
