Job Description:
Summary
Dentons Davis Brown is currently seeking an experienced Legal Administrative Assistant to support our Real Estate and Litigation Teams in our Ames office. The position provides administrative support to attorneys and paralegals, including drafting legal documents, managing court filings, scheduling meetings, and maintaining case files. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents and correspondence
Prepare and process state and federal court filings, including e-filings
Format legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and motions
Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate appointments for attorneys
Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and internal team members
Track and docket court deadlines and manage legal notices
Prepare documents for mailing, courier, or UPS, including certificates of mailing
Maintain accurate and organized electronic case files
Assist with billing by entering attorney time and reviewing for accuracy
Electronically record deeds, mortgages, and related documents through Iowa Land Records
Manage incoming abstracts and related documentation
Support attorneys and paralegals in preparation for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials
Perform general administrative tasks and additional duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities under deadlines
General knowledge of legal office procedures and terminology
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and adaptability to new software
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organization and teamwork skills
Professional and discreet when handling confidential information
Education & Experience
High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum of 1 year of legal administrative experience required; 2–3 years preferred

Pay:
$25.00-$30.00 per hour
