
Commissioning Agent IV

Senior Commissioning Agents work as part of a multi-discipline team during all phases of projects. Primary responsibility is to lead, facilitate, and perform all aspects of commissioning during the design, construction/testing, and occupancy/operations phases for both new construction and renovation projects. Dependent on project size, you will self‑perform the work or lead a small team of commissioning agents and be responsible for the quality of technical services provided. Commissioned items will include the architectural envelope, lighting, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, building automation systems, life safety systems, and specialty systems including nurse call and security. Senior Commissioning Agents must work collaboratively with engineers and contractors throughout the design and construction process to foster a strong team‑oriented approach.
Responsibilities
Serves as a technical expert within the commissioning team to plan the commissioning process and solve problems of large scope and complexity.
Assists Project Managers with fee development for commissioning portions of work.
Develops Owner’s Project Requirements
Creates the commissioning plan/specifications
Provides design reviews at appropriate stages
Writes pre-functional checklists and functional performance tests
Reviews equipment submittals and shop drawings for overall compliance with the design intent and functional testing plans
Witnesses and documents equipment startups, test/balance activities, functional tests during construction
Aids in the diagnosis and resolution of system and equipment problems
Generates corrective issue reports and maintains an issues log
Develops the final commissioning reports and provides systems manuals
Leads 10‑month lessons learned walk through meetings with clients
Coordinates training sessions and assists owner’s operation and maintenance staff to develop their understanding of the building systems and design intent
Assists LEED professionals in preparation of necessary documents for LEED certification.
Travel for project‑related work for owner meetings or site observations will be required up to 60% of the time
Performs marketing and business development activities including building relationship with key clients and strategic partners, proposal writing, fee estimates, and client interviews.
Mentors and encourages the development of junior professionals.
Assists the Commissioning Practice Leader to develop training and educational opportunities for the commissioning team.
Assists the Commissioning Practice Leader to assess and recommend improvements relative to commissioning software, design procedures, standard details, and master specifications.
Requirements
ABET‑accredited degree in Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis or degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 10 years of experience with A/E/C environment with several years specialized in commissioning
Building commissioning certification credential
Strong knowledge of building control systems and system operation
Demonstrated knowledge of commissioning industry standards and applicable codes
Demonstrated experience developing and witnessing functional testing of building MEP systems
Experienced in troubleshooting of field devices and control hardware and software
Ability to maintain positive professional relationships with all disciplines involved in the construction or renovations of projects
Positive attitude with ability to work independently and with commitment to being an active participant working as part of a multi‑discipline team
Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills
Excellent time management, organization, and multi‑task skills
Strong problem solving and self‑motivation skillsAble to react with flexibility in schedule changes on projects
Preferred Qualifications
Registered Professional Engineer license
Building envelope commissioning credential
Salary
Salary range for this position varies between $95,000 – $135,000, depending upon applicable experience.
