Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full‑time Assistant Controller at our Plano, TX location.

Primary Responsibilities

Set high standards and expectations for team members; then lead, mentor, and motivate staff to achieve those expectations.

Understand, implement, and supervise the accounting of processes such as accounts payable, property accounting, cash & equivalents accounting, derivatives, equity or debt investments, income and other tax accounting, purchase accounting, intercompany and elimination accounting, accounting related to lending and servicing activities, equity compensation accounting, etc.

Ensure material accuracy of accounting by systems utilized for banking practices.

Review, enhance, and maintain internal controls and the control environment entity‑wide.

Educate and train staff in systems and processes.

Assist in establishing short- and long‑range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

Assist with timely and accurate submission of financial reports to management.

Coordinate information gathering for auditors (internal and external) and regulatory authorities.

Complete month end closing duties according to schedule and research and explain monthly activity.

Process various regulatory reports within required timeframes or provide support to others producing the final reports.

Assist senior accounting officers as requested.

Maintain reconcilements and accounting records to standard for frequency and accuracy.

Maintain confidentiality of bank, internal and external customer information.

Maintain effective business relationships with those to whom service is provided as well as those with whom business is conducted, both inside and outside of the bank, including co‑workers, customers, vendors, and others.

Perform the job in accordance with applicable industry laws and regulations as well as the policies and procedures established by the company, including upholding Fair and Responsible Banking practices and Code of Ethics and Conduct guidelines.

Understand and participate in the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act program.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree; Accounting or Finance preferred.

Certified Public Accountant preferred.

Bank accounting experience with proven accounting knowledge, attention to detail, ability to work independently and able to solve complex problems.

Intermediate capability in Microsoft Office products at a minimum as well as familiarity with banking software; report building experience a plus.

Proven ability to excel in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Previous managerial experience preferred.

Ability to clearly offer and communicate findings with others.

Experience with sensitivity in working with and maintaining confidential information.

40 WPM keyboarding/typing.

10‑key by touch.

Must be able to work flexible hours.

Pay is dependent on knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and location.

Working Conditions
The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees may spend extended periods sitting or standing, using hands to operate computers or other equipment, and reaching for work‑related tasks. Regular walking may be required, along with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or climbing. The role may involve lifting or moving items weighing up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
