Job Summary
The custodian position is responsible for overall cleaning, light maintenance, and routine upkeep of Sieda Community Action facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.
Dust, wipe furniture, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
Clean hard surface floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets.
Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies as directed by manufacturers.
Remove snow or debris from sidewalks and outside of buildings using hand‑operated tools or power equipment as requested.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed.
Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, clean blinds, launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
Attend to emergency cleaning and maintenance when necessary.
Handle and dispose of trash and recycling materials appropriately.
Assist with inventory control and security.
Safely operate job‑related equipment.
Set up facilities for meetings, classes, conferences, events, etc.
Lock and unlock buildings, secure them when not in use, check for unlocked doors and windows, report unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
Submit required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Maintain full familiarity with all Sieda policies and procedures; report deviations to the Resource Center Supervisor or EFSS Director.
Perform light maintenance and repairs as assigned by the Resource Center Supervisor, Unit Director, or Executive Director.
Complete other duties as determined necessary to support the agency’s goals.
Independent Action
Receives ongoing supervision regarding task guidelines and completion.
Decision‑Making Authority
Limited independent decision‑making authority.
Additional Training
Obtain specific training required by Sieda guidelines.
Participate in pre‑service, in‑service, or other trainings; attend staff meetings and committee work as required; provide recommendations as requested.
Program Representation
Requires a limited level of interaction with staff and customers.
Program Design and Planning
Involved in the planning of a limited area reflective of the job responsibilities as requested.
Supervisory Responsibility
Not responsible for direction or training of program personnel.

Support and model the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
Maintain regular attendance to assure continuity of services and adequate staff coverage.
Demonstrate professional behavior at all times, including appearance and maintaining orderly office areas.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, bend, reach, grasp, walk, move quickly, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally lift and/or move 75 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, pick up and move equipment.
Vision requirements: close, distant, and peripheral vision.
Work Environment
The work environment can be both indoors and outdoors.
Noise level is usually moderate, but may increase with the use of tools and equipment.
Other Requirements
Must pass a pre‑employment state criminal record check and periodically while employed.
Travel within and outside the service area may be required; proof of auto insurance and valid driving license is required.
Must be able to work some evening hours when requested.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Formal Education
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Experience
One year of janitorial, maintenance, or custodial work preferred.
Technical Proficiency
Basic computer knowledge and experience with Google platforms, Microsoft Office, and Sieda databases; perform simple maintenance to keep devices operational.
